HYDERABAD: A 66-year-old businessman was arrested for allegedly supplying spoiled chicken to local vendors in the city, officials said.

The accused, identified as Suraj Pal, a resident of Rajiv Gandhi Nagar in Kukatpally, was nabbed by the H-FAST (Hyderabad Food Safety Task Force) team following a raid.

Acting on specific information, the H-FAST team, along with veterinary officer K. Nagarjuna, inspected the premises of  SPR Chicken at survey numbers 744, 745 and 746, located beside an Indian Oil petrol bunk at Zinkalavada in Bharath Nagar near Moosapet village.

Spoiled meat stored in poor sanitary conditions

Officials found that large quantities of chicken were stored in unhygienic conditions and supplied for preparing food items meant for public consumption.

During the raid, the team seized around 352 kg of frozen spoiled chicken, including wings, breast portions and livers.

Authorities said the meat was unfit for consumption and posed a risk to public health.

FSSAI licence expired, legal action initiated

The inspection also revealed that the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) licence of the unit had expired.

The premises were found to be in poor sanitary condition, violating food safety norms.

The H-FAST team secured the seized material and handed over the accused to the Station House Officer of Sanathnagar police station for further legal action.

The operation was conducted by the Inspector of Police, H-FAST, along with staff and Sanathnagar police personnel.

Public urged to buy food from verified sources

Officials advised the public to purchase food items only from authorised and hygienic outlets.

They also urged citizens to report suspicious or unhygienic food practices to authorities, stressing that public cooperation is essential to ensure food safety and protect community health.
