How a Hyderabad teen orchestrated gold theft from his own home

HYDERABAD: The Kanchanbagh police have arrested three persons, including a 19-year-old student, for allegedly stealing gold ornaments from his own residence in Hafeezbabanagar, officials said on April 2, 2026.
The case was registered based on a complaint filed by Mohd Rahmath Shareef, 56, on March 31, 2026. He reported that gold ornaments belonging to his wife and daughter, two small necklaces, one long necklace and two chains, were kept in an almirah at their house on January 17, 2026. When checked on March 29, the ornaments were found missing.
Police registered FIR No. 62/2026 under Section 305(a) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) at Kanchanbagh police station.
Accused include complainant’s son and two associates
The arrested accused have been identified as Mohammed Adnaan Shareef, 19, a student and son of the complainant; Mohammed Rehan Uddin, 25, a businessman; and Mohammed Sameer, 22, a medical salesman.
All three are residents of Hafeezbabanagar in Hyderabad.
Theft executed in phases, gold disposed for money
According to police, Adnaan observed the gold ornaments worn by his mother and sister during a family function in January. He later noticed that the ornaments were stored in an almirah locker at home.
Police said he planned the theft and involved the other two accused. “All three agreed due to financial difficulties and a desire to earn easy money for lavish expenses,” officials said.
Adnaan allegedly stole the ornaments in four separate instances and handed them over to the other two for disposal.
