Malakpet, Yakutpura deletion figures exceed 2023 votes

HYDERABAD: The number of voters included in the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) draft deletion list throws up notable figures when examined constituency-wise in Hyderabad.
Across the 15 constituencies in Greater Hyderabad, 21,72,111 votes were polled in the 2023 Assembly election, while 19,41,444 voters have been included in the draft deletion list, according to the figures in the supplied data.
Malakpet stands out. The constituency had 3,30,191 voters in June 2026. As many as 1,31,354 votes were polled there in the 2023 Assembly election and 1,35,907 in the 2024 Lok Sabha election. The current draft deletion list, however, includes 1,47,798 names — about 44.76% of the electorate.
Yakutpura had 3,74,948 voters. It recorded 1,99,990 votes in the 2023 Assembly election and 1,56,341 in the Lok Sabha election in 2024. The draft deletion list now includes 1,54,882 names.
In both constituencies, more than four in every 10 voters are included in the draft deletion list, based on the figures supplied.
Large deletions could affect turnout calculations
If a constituency has a large number of voters who have been absent, shifted to another area, died or cannot be traced for other reasons, calculating the polling percentage against the previously registered electorate could be affected.
The constituencies recording lower turnout in Hyderabad in 2023 are also showing higher numbers in the SIR deletion exercise. Malakpet and Yakutpura were among the constituencies with low turnout in that election. Hyderabad recorded 47.88% polling overall in 2023, with Malakpet at 41.32% and Yakutpura at 39.64%.
Booth-level officers (BLOs) are visiting households as part of the voter verification process based on the draft deletion list. They are taking claims and objections relating to voters who are absent, have shifted residence or have died, and are also issuing notices.
Leaders said it would therefore be premature to conclude that all voters included in the draft list have been permanently deleted from the final electoral roll.
However, senior Congress leaders said the fact that the number of names included in the draft deletion list in Malakpet and Yakutpura exceeds the votes polled in the past two elections warrants close scrutiny.
