She Teams crack 1,149 harassment cases in Hyderabad

HYDERABAD: Hyderabad’s She Teams have emerged as a strong deterrent against harassment, resolving 1,149 complaints over the past year and tightening surveillance across the city to ensure women’s safety.
Blackmail cases dominate complaints
Many women approached She Teams after being trapped in online blackmail. In several cases, victims said they had trusted acquaintances met through social media platforms such as Facebook and Instagram, shared personal photographs, and later faced threats demanding money or warning that the images would be made public.
Police said 366 complaints related to blackmail were received this year alone. In several instances, accused persons recorded video calls without consent or misused old photographs after failed relationships to threaten victims. She Teams intervened in all such cases and provided relief to the complainants.
Tech-enabled harassment under scanner
Technology-driven harassment remains a major concern. Police registered 121 cases involving abusive calls, stalking through new phone numbers, internet calls and late-night harassment. Fifty women reported severe mental distress due to repeated obscene calls.
Officers used technical evidence to trace and arrest the accused. Another 82 cases involving fake social media accounts and circulation of obscene content on WhatsApp were also resolved.
Marriage promises, betrayal complaints
Police also flagged cases where women were allegedly cheated under the pretext of love and marriage. As many as 98 complaints were received from women who said they were exploited emotionally, physically or financially after being promised marriage, only to be told otherwise later.
She Teams provided counselling to the victims and facilitated registration of criminal cases against the accused where required.
Plainclothes surveillance, mass counselling
Beyond complaint-based action, She Teams intensified field surveillance. Fifteen teams operated in plain clothes at bus stands, colleges and crowded public places across Hyderabad. During 2025, 3,826 men were caught red-handed while harassing women.
Most offenders were counselled in the presence of their family members. In serious cases, police registered FIRs and sent the accused to jail.
‘Zero tolerance towards harassment’
Hyderabad Police Commissioner V C Sajjanar, IPS, warned that strict action would be taken against anyone targeting women.
“Those who attempt to intimidate women, especially through blackmail, will face severe consequences. Women should not fear exposure of personal details. Complaints are handled with utmost confidentiality,” he said.
He urged women facing harassment to come forward and contact Dial 100 or the She Teams WhatsApp number 9490616555 without hesitation.
