Hyderabad Court Awards Life Term in Double Murder

HYDERABAD: A sessions court has sentenced an accused to life imprisonment in a double murder case reported about a decade ago under the Humayun Nagar police station limits, now Mehdipatnam.

Case Background

On June 4, 2015, at around 1.30am, constables Mallesh and Madhav Rao of Humayun Nagar police station were on patrol when they noticed a fire in an apartment under construction near Mallepally.

They rushed to the spot and found a woman, Sultana Begum, with severe burn injuries. In her dying declaration, she said the accused, Hussain, used to harass her. She stated that he had asked her to consume alcohol that day and, when she refused, the incident occurred. She expressed suspicion over his role in the fire.

Her husband, Kurmaiah, later died of severe injuries in the incident.

Court Verdict

The VII Additional Sessions Judge at Nampally, B. Sujay, delivered the verdict on February 27, 2026, after a prolonged trial.

The court found the accused, Sheikh Hussain (56), guilty and sentenced him to life imprisonment along with a fine of ₹1,000. In default of payment, he will undergo one month of simple imprisonment.

Investigation and Prosecution

The investigation was conducted by S. Ravinder, then Inspector and currently Assistant Commissioner of Police, Economic Offences Wing.

Additional Public Prosecutor A. Phani Kumar argued the case for the prosecution.

Deputy Commissioner of Police, South West Zone, G. Chandra Mohan, and other senior officials commended the officers and staff, including constables P. C. Mallesh Naik and P. C. Raju, and announced rewards for their work.
