Hyderabad Makes Breathalyser Tests Mandatory for School Bus Drivers
HYDERABAD: The Hyderabad Traffic Police have made pre-duty breathalyser tests mandatory for all school bus drivers after recent cases of school transport drivers being caught driving under the influence of alcohol.
The move aims to improve student safety and ensure stricter compliance with school transport regulations across the city.
Schools told to tighten transport safety
Traffic-II Deputy Commissioner of Police Kajal Singh met the managements of The Slate School, All Saints High School, Olive Mount School, St. Paul’s School and Gautam Model School along with officials from the Goshamahal Traffic Police Station to review school transport safety.
During the meeting, Kajal Singh directed schools to conduct mandatory breathalyser tests for every school bus driver before they begin duty.
The order follows recent incidents in which police booked school transport drivers for drunk driving. She also asked schools to educate parents and private transport operators about safe commuting practices and road safety rules.
Police stress zero tolerance for violations
The Traffic Police instructed schools to strictly enforce all transport safety norms. Schools must prevent overcrowding in buses, stop overspeeding and rash driving, and maintain zero tolerance for drunk driving.
Schools must also ensure that students board and exit vehicles only at designated locations.
Kajal Singh said student safety remains the highest priority. She warned that police would take strict action against any violation of transport safety norms.
School representatives assured the Traffic Police that they would implement the new measures and strengthen safety for students travelling in school buses.
Police said the initiative will improve school transport safety across Hyderabad through stricter enforcement of road safety rules and greater accountability among transport operators.
