Hyderabad To Experience Scattered Storms, No Major Impact Telangana Weatherman

Hyderabad: The Telangana Weatherman has issued a weather update for the state, indicating thunderstorms in various regions today, though with less intensity than yesterday. He posted on X (formerly Twitter), stating, “Today, scattered thunderstorms are expected across East and West Telangana, with Hyderabad having better chances for scattered storms. However, don’t expect too much from today’s spell.”

On April 8, 2025, after heavy rainfall in rural areas such as Warangal, Bhadradri, Khammam, Mahabubabad, and Mulugu, the storms are dissipating, with gusty winds moving in.

On April 8, 2025, the Telangana Weatherman issued multiple alerts due to severe weather conditions. A “Red Alert” was declared for areas including Mulugu, Bhadradri, Khammam, and Mahabubabad, warning of dangerous storms, strong winds, and hailstorms in the region. He also cautioned that severe storms would affect parts of Warangal and rural Khammam within the next few hours.

The Weatherman further stated that powerful thunderstorms were expected to move through East Telangana, affecting regions such as Bhupalapally, Mulugu, and Kothagudem over the next 1-2 hours. He also noted that Hyderabad would remain dry during this time. Later, scattered storms would spread to parts of Suryapet.

Earlier, the government of Telangana, through the Director of Public Health and Family Welfare, issued an advisory to protect citizens from rising temperatures during the ongoing heatwave.

Do’s for Protection Against Heatwave:

• Stay hydrated by drinking plenty of water, even if not thirsty. Oral Rehydration Solutions (ORS), lemon water, buttermilk, and fruit juices are recommended.

• Eat seasonal fruits and vegetables with high water content, such as watermelon, musk melon, oranges, grapes, cucumbers, and lettuce.

• Wear loose, light-colored cotton clothing when outdoors. Cover your head with an umbrella, hat, or towel to shield from the sun. Avoid hot surfaces by wearing shoes or chappals.

• Limit outdoor activities to early morning or evening hours, when it is cooler.

• Stay indoors in well-ventilated areas, keep windows and curtains closed during the day, and open them at night for cooler air.

Don’ts During the Heatwave:

• Avoid going out between 12:00 noon and 3:00 p.m. when the sun’s rays are strongest.

• Refrain from strenuous physical activities during peak heat hours.

• Avoid walking barefoot in the sun and cooking during the hottest part of the day. If cooking is necessary, ensure proper ventilation.

• Avoid consumption of alcohol, tea, coffee, sugary drinks, and carbonated soft drinks, as they may cause dehydration. Similarly, refrain from eating high-protein, salty, spicy, or oily foods, and avoid stale food.

Signs of Heat-Related Illnesses:

The advisory also highlighted the symptoms of heat-related illnesses, which include nausea, vomiting, dry skin, body temperature exceeding 40°C (104°F), headache, dizziness, fainting, muscle cramps, rapid heartbeat, shallow breathing, and confusion. If any of these symptoms appear, immediate medical attention is recommended.

To manage heat-related emergencies, special beds, intravenous fluids, essential medicines, and ORS sachets are available at public health facilities and through community health workers.

This advisory was issued by Dr. B. Ravinder Nayak, Director of Public Health and Family Welfare, Telangana, as part of the state’s efforts to safeguard citizens during the heatwave.
