Hyderabad Traffic Police issue Sankranti traffic advisory for key city routes

HYDERABAD: The Hyderabad Traffic Police on January 8 issued a traffic advisory ahead of Sankranti, warning of heavy vehicular movement across the city between January 9 and 13, with return traffic expected from January 16 to 19.

Police said traffic volumes are likely to rise due to large-scale travel towards Andhra Pradesh and various districts of Telangana, especially around bus stations, railway stations and major arterial roads.

Congestion likely at key transit hubs

Moderate congestion is expected around Kachiguda and Secunderabad railway stations due to passenger movement, frequent pick-ups and drop-offs, auto and cab operations, and pedestrian flow. Commuters may face slow-moving traffic during peak hours.

Pressure on major arterial corridors

The MGBS–Aramghar stretch via Afzalgunj, City College, Puranapool and Bahadurpura is expected to see congestion due to increased bus services and festival travel. Traffic is also likely on the S.R. Nagar–Lakdikapool corridor during morning and evening peak hours.

Inter-city routes to see slow movement

Moderate congestion is anticipated on the Rethibowli–Aramghar road via Attapur, the Kachiguda–Ramanthapur stretch, and the MGBS–Dilsukhnagar route due to a mix of inter-city buses, local traffic and festival travellers.

Police advised commuters to plan travel in advance, avoid peak hours, use alternate routes and follow traffic signage. Travellers heading to railway stations and bus terminals were asked to start early. Use of public transport and Metro Rail was encouraged to reduce congestion.

Commuters can follow updates on the Hyderabad Traffic Police Facebook page and the @HYDP handle on X. In case of emergencies, the traffic helpline 9010203626 can be contacted for assistance.
