Hyderabad: Residents protest against illegal ramp constructions in Sanath Nagar

Hyderabad: Amid the rising number of vehicles in urban areas of Hyderabad, ramps covering drains and footpaths are slowly narrowing the width of lanes and bylanes in the city.
These ramps not only block drains in some semi-urban areas but also encroach on public roads. The regular ramp constructions in residential areas with heavy traffic movement have become a menace for motorists and four-wheelers.
In several localities, residents have constructed ramps and platforms outside their houses. Residents tend to extend the gates of their houses by constructing ramps to make space for parking. Several commercial establishments too have expanded their territory by developing illegal structures. At some places, road width has been reduced by permanent encroachments. The construction of ramps is also leaving no space for pedestrians to walk on the street.
Recently, locals in SRT Quarters, Sanath Nagar, objected to the house owner for constructing ramps in violation of regulations. However, the house owner ignored their concern and proceeded with the construction. The locals said the narrow road is already congested and these ramps are encroaching on half of the road, making it difficult for motorists to pass through it.
This particular road is crucial as it leads to the Sanath Nagar vegetable market and connects to several shopping centers. This road is frequently used as a passage by both motorists and pedestrians. Given its significance, local residents have urged GHMC’s town planning officials to take immediate action against these illegal road encroachments and remove the illegal ramp constructions outside houses on the street.
