Hyderabad Cp Sajjanar Honours Father And Son For Exposing Gas Cylinder Fraud

HYDERABAD: Hyderabad Police Commissioner V C Sajjanar honoured a father and son who exposed irregularities in domestic gas cylinder supply after they identified underweight cylinders being delivered to consumers.

Police Reward Civic Vigilance

At a function held on Saturday at TGICCC in Banjara Hills, Sajjanar presented them with a commendation certificate and a cash reward. He praised their alertness, stating that their actions reflected responsible citizenship. He also urged the public to actively report illegal activities.

How the Irregularity Came to Light

Ashok Tiwari, a trader from Chudi Bazaar, booked a gas cylinder on April 21, 2026. However, during delivery, his 16-year-old son Naman Tiwari noticed that the cylinder felt lighter than usual. Moreover, he recalled that a previous delivery had also been short by nearly two kilograms.

As per norms, a domestic cylinder should weigh 30.4 kg. Instead, this cylinder weighed only 28 kg. Consequently, the duo grew suspicious, especially since the gas had been getting exhausted quickly. They then checked the weight and confirmed a shortage of around two kilograms.

Illegal Refilling Operation Exposed

When Ashok questioned the agency, representatives of Siddhartha Enterprises responded rudely. Nevertheless, the father and son pursued the matter further. Their efforts led them to uncover an illegal operation where staff refilled gas into smaller cylinders for commercial use at a house in Jumerat Bazaar.

Recognising the potential danger, they immediately filed a complaint at the Goshamahal police station. They highlighted that such illegal refilling in crowded public areas posed a serious risk to lives.

Police Action and Arrests

Following the complaint, police registered a case against Siddhartha Enterprises and five individuals. The accused — Sai Kumar, Vineet Kumar, Pusa Ganesh, Praveen Kumar, and Amit Kumar — not only supplied underweight cylinders but also carried out hazardous refilling operations.

Police arrested all five and seized two commercial cylinders, seven domestic cylinders, 12 small cylinders, and refilling equipment from them.

Sajjanar Praises Public Responsibility

Sajjanar commended the duo, stating that they acted like police officers without uniform by questioning illegal practices. He emphasised that such awareness among citizens can prevent offenders from operating freely.

He further encouraged consumers to regularly check the quality and quantity of goods they receive. Meanwhile, the Hyderabad City Police reiterated that they will continue strict surveillance and take firm action against illegal gas refilling.

Citizens can dial 100 or inform local police if they notice any such fraud.
