HYDERABAD: City Police Commissioner V. C. Sajjanar said bank officials and staff play a key role in protecting the public from cybercrime.

Responding on social media platform X on Tuesday, he urged bankers to act responsibly towards their customers, as custodians of public money. He asked them to verify reasons whenever large cash withdrawals or transfers are noticed.

If any fraud is suspected, bankers should alert customers and help them avoid falling into traps set by cyber criminals, he added.

Focus on three major fraud types affecting citizens

Sajjanar said most victims in the city are falling prey to investment scams, stock market frauds and digital arrest cases. Police investigations show that highly educated individuals, information technology professionals and retired employees are among those being targeted.

He said lack of awareness is making people vulnerable to such frauds. Bank officials and staff should educate customers to prevent such incidents.

Awareness can help build cybercrime-free society

“Public awareness with the support of bankers can help build a cybercrime-free society,” the Commissioner said.
