HYDERABAD: Senior leaders on Tuesday met doctors at Gandhi Hospital to inquire about the condition of Sai Eshwar Chari, who attempted self-immolation alleging that the Congress government had deceived Backward Classes by not providing 42% reservation.

Former ministers V Srinivas Goud and Talasani Srinivas Yadav, BC JAC chairman Jajula Srinivas Goud, MLC Teenmar Mallanna, Cheruku Sudhakar, Palle Ravi Kumar and others spoke to the medical team and reviewed Chari’s treatment.

Leaders allege neglect in hospital treatment

Speaking to reporters, Srinivas Goud said the incident amounted to a “government-driven tragedy.” He alleged that the government’s failure to deliver on its promise of 42% BC reservation had pushed Chari to pour petrol on himself and attempt self-immolation.

He further said Gandhi Hospital had not provided “adequate medical care” and had restricted Chari to the general ward instead of shifting him to a corporate-care facility. Police, he alleged, did not record Chari’s dying declaration and acted “negligently and vindictively,” prompting a sit-in protest outside the hospital.

Demand for accountability and BC reservation

The leaders demanded that the government take responsibility for Chari’s death and support his family. They also sought immediate suspension of sarpanch elections and conduct of polls with 42% BC reservation as earlier promised.

BC leaders arrested, shifted to police stations

The delegation said several BC leaders staging protests were arrested and moved to different police stations. They demanded their immediate release.
