U-FERWAS, CoRWA submit residential safety recommendations to Hyderabad police

HYDERABAD: A delegation of Resident Welfare Association representatives from U-FERWAS (United Federation of Resident Welfare Associations) and CoRWA met today with J. Narsaiah, Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police, Secunderabad Zone, to discuss ways to improve residential security.
During the discussion, the meeting focused on safety concerns for women homeowners and senior citizens, as well as recent incidents involving domestic workers. Following this, the delegation submitted a memorandum with practical recommendations to enhance residential safety in Hyderabad.
Specifically, the memorandum urged the police department to consider several measures. These include establishing a uniform domestic worker registration system for residential communities, with secure online uploading and a clear data privacy policy. It also recommended mandatory police verification for long-term domestic workers, drivers, security personnel, and other regular household service providers.
Additionally, the memorandum called for strict digital gate management in gated communities, such as digital check-in and check-out systems for service personnel. Resident Welfare Associations should maintain verified vendor and worker databases. The memorandum suggested annual joint security audits by local police and RWA management teams. CCTV surveillance should be limited to common areas to protect privacy rights. Regular awareness sessions for residents on safe hiring practices, cyber awareness, and emergency response were also recommended.
Finally, the memorandum highlighted the need for special safety protocols for women and senior citizens, and a worker grievance mechanism to prevent exploitation and misunderstandings.

In response, J. Narsaiah appreciated the balanced approach, noting it aimed to ensure security for residents while protecting the dignity and rights of domestic workers.
He went on to describe proactive measures already in place by Hyderabad Police. These include Dial 100 emergency responses reaching complainants within 10 minutes, the new “FIR from Home” facility, and technology-driven initiatives that support efficient crime and grievance handling.
Furthermore, he requested RWAs and gated community management committees to promote awareness about police verification of domestic staff at the time of employment and to encourage responsible data-sharing when legally required.
The Additional DCP acknowledged all points and stated they would be forwarded to the DCP and Hyderabad City Commissioner for further action. Additionally, he informed the delegation that a meeting with the DCP would be scheduled soon.
The delegation included B. T. Srinivasan (Secretary General, CoRWA / U-FERWAS), Dr. P. Mohan Rao (Tarnaka RWA), Dr. G. Nageswara Rao (Vice President, ASARA), Ashwin Naidu, S. Udaya Bhaskar Prasad, Syed Khalid Shah, Mrs. Srilatha, K. Raghavendra Rao, P. Shobhakar Rao, Y. Rajeswar, G. Sudhakar, M. Sampath Yadav, and B. Venkat Narayana.
The representatives assured full cooperation from Resident Welfare Associations to support Hyderabad Police initiatives, strengthen community safety, promote responsible employment, and foster harmonious residential living.
