HYDERABAD: The Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (RTC) plans to increase the number of metro deluxe buses operating in Greater Hyderabad. As part of the move, it is offering a 15–20 per cent fare concession.

Authorities are charging metro express fares in these buses. The corporation is also working to introduce another 150 metro deluxe buses on city roads by June.

Free travel scheme crowds ordinary and metro express buses

Officials said ordinary and metro express buses are overcrowded due to the Mahalakshmi free travel scheme for women. During morning and evening peak hours, buses lack space even for footboard travel.

Occupancy in deluxe buses remains low as the free travel facility is not available on these services. Against this backdrop, RTC has started efforts to improve passenger occupancy by collecting metro-level fares on the 275 metro deluxe buses currently operating in the Greater zone.

Senior officials said further action will depend on results during the March–May concession period. The corporation is also focusing on introducing new bus route maps and expanding services in Greater Hyderabad to increase ticket revenue.

Metro deluxe bus fares

Under the revised fare structure for metro deluxe buses in Greater Hyderabad, passengers travelling up to 2 km will continue to pay ₹15, with no change in ticket price. For a 4-km journey, the fare has been reduced from ₹30 to ₹25, while those travelling 6 km will now pay ₹30 instead of ₹40.

Similarly, commuters covering 8 km, 10 km, 12 km or 14 km will be charged ₹40, down from the earlier ₹45. The fare for 16 km and 18 km trips has been lowered from ₹50 to ₹45, and for 20 km travel, passengers will now pay ₹45 instead of ₹55.

Officials said the revised fares are part of efforts to attract more passengers to metro deluxe services and improve occupancy levels.
