Hyderabad RRR south stretch faces uncertainty

HYDERABAD: Uncertainty continues over the southern stretch of the Regional Ring Road (RRR), even as the Centre moves ahead with works on the northern corridor.
It remains unclear whether the Union government will execute the southern stretch or if the Telangana government will take it up.
The Centre has completed preparations to begin work on the northern stretch and assigned it National Highway-161AA status. Full clearances are likely within a fortnight, officials said.
The 161.5 km northern corridor will run from Girmapur in Sangareddy district to Tangadpally in Yadadri Bhuvanagiri district. It will be developed as a six-lane greenfield expressway at an estimated cost of ₹20,737 crore. National Highways officials said arrangements are under way to launch the works soon.
State prepares DPR for 201 km stretch
The state government had earlier announced that the southern stretch would be taken up parallel to the northern works. While requesting the Centre to execute the project, the state also said it would proceed on its own if required.
A consultancy-prepared Detailed Project Report (DPR) has been readied for the southern corridor. Of three proposals examined, the state favoured developing a 201 km greenfield expressway from Tangadpally in Yadadri Bhuvanagiri district to Sangareddy.
The alignment passes through Yadadri Bhuvanagiri, Nalgonda, Ranga Reddy, Nagarkurnool, Mahabubnagar, Vikarabad and Sangareddy districts. Around 2,010 hectares of land will be required.
The corridor has been designed to connect Future City, AI City and Adibatla Aerocity areas. It will link National Highways 65, 163, 44 and 76, besides State Highway 19.
The project cost for the southern stretch is estimated at around ₹20,000 crore. With the northern works set to begin, clarity is awaited on the execution of the southern corridor.
