Mangalhat raid exposes rotten meat supply to hotels

HYDERABAD: Authorities seized about 14 tonnes of rotten meat during a raid in Mangalhat, officials said on Wednesday.
Task Force teams conducted inspections following inputs about illegal meat supply and recovered large quantities of spoiled stock. Afroz was detained for allegedly supplying the meat to several hotels across the city.

Officials said the accused procured spoiled meat from Delhi, Jammu and Kashmir, and Maharashtra. He transported it to Hyderabad and supplied it to hotels at lower prices.
They said the meat was stored in unhygienic conditions before distribution, raising concerns over public health and food safety.
Accused sourced spoiled meat from other states, probe expands
Afroz admitted to the procurement and supply during questioning, Task Force police said. Officials are verifying supply chains and identifying hotels that received the meat.
Further inquiry is under way to establish how long the operation had been running and whether others were involved.

Authorities said inspections would be intensified across the city to prevent similar violations. Food safety teams are expected to conduct checks at hotels and storage units in the coming days.
Officials urged establishments to follow hygiene norms and warned of strict action against violations.
