Mangalhat raids expose rotten meat supply network

HYDERABAD: Police have uncovered a racket supplying rotten goat meat to hotels and biryani centres in the city, exposing a public health risk.
Officials said traders were procuring carcasses of goats and sheep at low cost from Jammu and Kashmir, Uttar Pradesh, and Maharashtra. The meat, including heads and legs, was stored and later supplied despite being unfit for consumption.
Raids in Mangalhat expose illegal storage
Acting on a tip-off, teams from the Golconda Task Force and Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation conducted raids in Mangalhat under Mangalhat police station limits. The operation targeted warehouses linked to a shop operating under the name ‘A to Z Sheep and Goat Offals’.
Police seized about 600 kg of rotten goat heads and legs from two warehouses. The units were sealed, and samples were sent for laboratory testing, Inspector Raghavendra said.
Accused procured dead animals at low cost
Inquiry revealed that Afroze, identified as the main accused, sourced dead goats from other states and stored the meat locally before supplying it to food outlets across the city.
Police arrested four persons in connection with the case. This is the second such incident within a month. On March 11, police had seized 300 kg of rotten meat from a warehouse linked to the same accused.
Repeated cases have raised concerns over food safety in Hyderabad.
