Hyderabad Police Annual Report 2025: Road accidents drop by 14%
HYDERABAD: The Hyderabad Traffic Police reported a mixed picture of road safety and enforcement in their 2025 annual data. While road accidents decreased, dangerous driving behaviours such as helmetless riding, phone use while driving, and seatbelt violations increased sharply.
Fatal accidents fell from 116 to 105, and total accidents decreased from 974 to 837. However, the rise in serious traffic violations highlights the need for more public awareness and stricter enforcement.

Despite fewer accidents, enforcement data shows rising non-compliance with safety rules. Helmetless riding rose by 61% to 41.28 lakh cases. Cell phone use while driving increased to 1.26 lakh cases. Seatbelt violations nearly doubled to 39,944, and cases of minors driving doubled to 7,808.
Drunk driving cases declined by 17%, from 59,572 in 2024 to 49,732 in 2025. Police filed charge sheets in 46,917 cases and suspended or cancelled 195 licences. Courts imposed fines totalling Rs 10.46 crore and sentenced 3,185 offenders to jail “till the rising of the court.”
The Hyderabad Traffic Police have implemented technological and community initiatives to enhance road safety. They installed 43 high-rise cameras and use drones for live traffic monitoring. The traffic marshals program now includes 74 marshals through public-private partnerships. Thirty-eight traffic assistants from the transgender community are active in field roles. Fifty new patrolling bikes have been introduced to improve mobility and visibility.
Joint Commissioner of Police (Traffic) D. Joel Davis highlighted the importance of both enforcement and education: “While we are encouraged by the reduction in accidents, the rise in helmet, seatbelt, and phone violations is a serious concern. Our focus for 2026 will be on sustained enforcement, public awareness, and leveraging technology to make Hyderabad’s roads safer for everyone.”
The Hyderabad City Police’s Vision 2026 includes AI-enabled traffic signal management, smart traffic systems, and closer integration with urban planning to reduce congestion and improve last-mile connectivity.
