Golden jubilee glow-up for Birla Mandir as major renovation nears completion

HYDERABAD: The iconic Birla Mandir is undergoing a major renovation to upgrade facilities and improve visitor access ahead of its Golden Jubilee celebrations, temple authorities said. The works, which began in November, are scheduled for completion by the end of January.
New lift to improve access for elderly devotees
A key component of the renovation is the installation of a new lift that will take visitors directly to the hilltop shrine. The addition is expected to ease access for elderly and differently abled devotees by removing the need to climb steps. With this, the temple complex will have two lifts.
Facilities upgraded across the temple complex
Several facilities across the complex are being refurbished. The science museum at the entrance is undergoing wall resurfacing, replacement of interior tiles and general refurbishment. Three washrooms are also being upgraded, with additional amenities being added for visitors.
Works aim to preserve heritage, address seepage issues
Temple authorities said the renovation is also addressing long-standing issues such as water seepage on the hillock. “The renovation aims to preserve the sanctity and heritage of Birla Mandir while ensuring greater comfort and accessibility for visitors,” said Shyam Kothari, executive officer.
The renovation gains significance as the temple prepares for its Golden Jubilee celebrations on February 13, 2026, marking 50 years since its prana pratishtha in 1976. Built on a 280-foot-high hillock and spread over 28,165 square yards, Birla Mandir attracts 5,000 to 7,000 devotees on weekdays and up to 13,000 on weekends.
