POCSO court convicts Hyderabad shop owner
HYDERABAD: A Fast Track Special Court in Rajendranagar has convicted a 56-year-old man in a Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act case and sentenced him to three years of rigorous imprisonment.
Minor assaulted at Bandlaguda toy shop
The Fast Track Special Judge for the trial of rape and POCSO Act cases in Ranga Reddy district delivered the verdict on June 30, 2026, in a case registered at Rajendranagar police station.
The convict, Pallati Venugopal, a bangle shop owner from Anand Nagar Colony in Bandlaguda Jagir, was found guilty of sexually assaulting an 11-year-old boy inside Maruthi Fancy Gift Emporium in Bandlaguda on March 1, 2022.
According to the prosecution, the child informed his father about the incident, following which a complaint was lodged. Police registered Crime No. 404/2022, arrested the accused on March 15, 2022, and filed the charge sheet on March 20, 2022.
Court awards jail term and compensation
After examining the evidence, the court convicted Venugopal under Section 354A(1) of the Indian Penal Code and Sections 7 and 8 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act, 2012.
The court sentenced him to three years of rigorous imprisonment, imposed a fine of ₹1,000 and directed payment of ₹50,000 as compensation to the victim.
Police team commended
Police said the conviction resulted from the investigation led by Station House Officer M. Muthu Yadav and investigating officer G. Ramulu. Special Public Prosecutor B. Venkateshwar Reddy represented the prosecution.
Senior police officials also commended Court Duty Officer V. Krishnaiah, Summons Police Constable Y. Narshimulu, Woman Sub-Inspector Jyothi and Assistant Sub-Inspector B. Shiva Reddy for coordinating court proceedings and assisting the prosecution.
