‘Hyderabad rains to continue, come out only if necessary’, GHMC Commissioner

Hyderabad: Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) commissioner, Amrapali K requested residents to stay at home and come out only if necessary in view of the incessant rains in the city. She further added that the rains are going to continue tomorrow, ie., on Monday as well and asked residents to be taking necessary precautions. Further, the district collector has also announced a holiday for schools in the city.
“Please do not go out unless it is absolutely essential. Do not let children and old people walk on the roads by themselves. Pedestrians and two wheelers are requested to not walk into or drive into water in case there is some road damage underneath. GHMC is fully alert and committed to ensuring Hyderabad is safe,” added the Commissioner in an official note.

And the rains have left dozens of water bodies in the city to overflow beyond their Full Tank Level limits. As per the official details released by the GHMC, there are a total of 28 water bodies which are overflowing and four others are at their FTL levels, while others are below their FTL. Officials are closely monitoring the lakes and water bodies in the jurisdiction.
Meanwhile, the Principal Secretary of Municipal Administration and Urban Development Department, M Dana Kishore directed the officials to ensure there are no losses of life or property within the GHMC limits. And the official further asked to identify and promptly relocate residents from low-lying areas and those living in dilapidated or hazardous buildings to safer locations” stressed Dana Kishore in the Teleconference.

Further several areas in the low-lying areas are inundated with rainwater and created a flood like situation in some parts of the city.
