HYDERABAD: Heavy rain accompanied by winds and thunderstorms near Hyderabad’s IT hub surprised commuters on Wednesday evening, caused waterlogging and traffic jams during peak hours.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert across Telangana for the next five days. Very heavy rainfall occurred at isolated places in Jagtial district and Vikarabad district of Telangana.

The Southwest Monsoon is expected to advance further into the central Arabian Sea, Karnataka, south Maharashtra, Telangana, coastal Andhra Pradesh, south Chhattisgarh, South Odisha, and parts of Westcentral and Northwest Bay of Bengal over the next 3-4 days.

The cyclonic circulation over south Andhra Pradesh and its vicinity is now situated over Rayalaseema and its surroundings at an altitude between 3.1 and 5.8 km above mean sea level, as stated by the India Meteorological Department (IMD).

Heavy rain is likely to occur at isolated places in the Vikarabad, Sangareddy, Mahabubnagar, Nagarkurnool, Wanaparthy, Narayanpet, and Jogulamba Gadwal districts of Telangana.

Thunderstorms with rain accompanied by lightning and gusty winds (30-40 km/h) are very likely to occur at isolated places in Adilabad, Mancherial, Nirmal, Nizamabad, Nalgonda, Suryapet, Mahabubabad, Warangal, Hanamkonda, Siddipet, Yadadri Bhuvangiri, Rangareddy, Hyderabad, Medchal Malkajigiri, Vikarabad, Sangareddy, Medak, Kamareddy, Mahabubnagar, Nagarkurnool, Wanaparthy, Narayanpet, Jogulamba Gadwal districts of Telangana.

– In the Khairathabad zone, a generally cloudy sky with light to moderate rain/thundershowers and gusty winds (30-40 km/h) is expected.

– The sky over Kukatpally zone is mostly cloudy, with a high chance of light to moderate rain, thundershowers, and gusty winds of 30-40 km/h.

– The LB Nagar zone is expected to experience light to moderate rain, thundershowers, and gusty winds (30-40 km/h) with generally cloudy skies.

– The sky is generally cloudy. In the Secunderabad zone, Light to Moderate Rain/Thundershowers and gusty winds (30-40 km/h) are very likely.

– Expect a mostly cloudy sky. There’s a high chance of light to moderate rain and thundershowers with gusty winds (30-40 km/h) in the Seri Lingampally zone.
