The city saw significant rainfall, with Himayatnagar Mandal receiving the highest at 96.0 mm, followed by Charminar Mandal at 94.5 mm and Musheerabad’s Talla Bbasthi Community Hall at 94.3 mm. The least rainfall was recorded at Asifnagar Allabada Water Reservoir, with 70.3 mm.
The heavy rains caused widespread flooding and tree falls across the city. The Hyderabad Disaster Response and Asset Protection Agency (HYDRAA) deployed Disaster Response Force (DRF) teams to clear debris and restore traffic flow. Key areas such as Khairatabad, Somajiguda, Saidabad, Basheerbagh, Necklace Road, Musheerabad, Assembly Road, and Banjara Hills saw prompt action, with fallen trees cleared quickly.
A tree near the Khairatabad-Somajiguda RTA office was cleared in just 40 minutes, and floodwaters in areas like Old Alwal, LB Nagar, Begumpet, Madhapur, and Mehdipatnam were drained.
In a notable incident, a piece of lime stucco fell from one of the minarets of the historic Charminar due to the unseasonal rains. Videos circulating on social media show pieces of plaster chipping off the northeast minaret of the 434-year-old monument. While the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) oversees the Charminar, it is unclear if the monument has suffered structural damage. A similar incident occurred in 2019 following unseasonal rains.
Traffic disruptions were widespread, particularly in areas like Banjara Hills, Punjagutta, Jubilee Hills, Masab Tank, Begumpet, Paradise, Trimulgherry, Karkhana, Alwal, Sainikpuri, ECIL Cross Roads, Kapra, Tarnaka, and Habsiguda, due to waterlogging in low-lying areas. The Malakpet RUB (road under railway bridge) also experienced severe waterlogging, causing significant congestion.
The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast more rain until Sunday, with temperatures expected to fall by 2 to 4 degrees Celsius over the next few days.
While Hyderabad is expected to see only isolated rains today, heavy rainfall continues in parts of South Telangana. #HyderabadRains trended on X (formerly Twitter), with users sharing videos and updates of the ongoing weather.
