Telangana power employees protest against DISCOM transfer policy in Hyderabad

HYDERABAD: The Telangana State Power Employees Joint Action Committee (TGPEJAC) on Sunday protested against the state’s power distribution companies for issuing transfer policy guidelines without considering appeals from unions and associations seeking a postponement.

TGPEJAC members staged a demonstration at the Mint Compound, alleging that the managements ignored repeated representations. The unions have urged the DISCOMs to issue transfer orders in May or June, citing the completion of the academic year for employees’ children.

They also flagged concerns that early, large-scale transfers would disrupt the preparation and execution of the summer action plan aimed at ensuring uninterrupted power supply to consumers. Despite these appeals, the DISCOMs are reportedly inclined to issue general transfers in January 2026.

The unions demanded discussions on the transfer guidelines and sought to restrict transfers to employees who have completed three years of service in their current posts. TGPEJAC also called for in-charge promotions to Operation and Maintenance staff in the Telangana Southern Power Distribution Company Limited and grade upgradation for artisans across power utilities.

However, the managements issued the transfer policy without consultations, the unions alleged. Under the guidelines, employees who have completed two years in a post are liable for transfer within the DISCOMs.

Later in the day, TGPEJAC leaders met Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka, who assured them that the transfer policy would be finalised after discussions with unions and associations, according to a press release.
