Hyderabad Police warn students against fake degree admission agents
HYDERABAD: As the degree college admission season gathers pace, Hyderabad Police have warned students and parents against fraudsters who promise college admissions in exchange for money.
In an advisory, Hyderabad Commissioner of Police VC Sajjanar urged students to ignore anyone claiming they can secure degree college admissions through illegal means.
Admissions only through DOST portal
The police said Telangana conducts degree admissions only through the Degree Online Services, Telangana (DOST) portal, following the guidelines of the University Grants Commission (UGC).
However, fraudsters have been misleading students by offering “guaranteed” admissions to reputed colleges for a fee. Police stressed that these claims are false. They also warned that paying unauthorised agents could result in financial losses and the rejection of admission applications.
Verify information through official channels
Therefore, students and parents should verify every admission-related detail through the official DOST portal and the websites of the respective colleges.
Police also advised applicants not to share personal, banking or financial information with unknown individuals offering admission assistance.
Report fraud immediately
If anyone encounters an admission-related scam, they should immediately call the emergency helpline 100 or visit the nearest police station. Prompt reporting can help police stop fraudsters and protect other students and parents from similar scams.
Meanwhile, thousands of students across Telangana are applying for undergraduate admissions through the DOST portal for the current academic year.
