Avoid sharing misleading videos on stampede: Hyderabad Police warns of action

Hyderabad: The Hyderabad Police has cautioned against spreading false information and fake news on social media regarding the recent stampede incident at Sandhya theatre in the city.
The police has issued the warning after it found that a few persons posted false videos claiming that the stampede had occurred before the arrival of Telugu actor Allu Arjun at the theatre.
Earlier, the city police released a video to counter the actor’s claims regarding the stampede in which a 32-year-old woman lost her life while her eight-year-old son was severely injured. The 10-minute video gave a timeline of the December 4 incident during the premiere show of ‘Pushpa2: The Rule’.
In a statement released in Telugu on X, the Hyderabad City Police said “It has come to our notice that some people have deliberately shared misinformation about the stampede claiming the incident occurred before the arrival of Allu Arjun at the theatre.”
The police warned of “legal action against those who deliberately” mislead people while the investigation is on.” It further said “any false propaganda to defame the police department” will be taken seriously.
“We will take any false propaganda that defames the police department seriously. The police department is investigating with commitment this case, which resulted in the death of an innocent woman and critically injured a child. We will not tolerate anyone spreading false propaganda and fabrications on social media to question it,” the statement added.
Citizens having evidence or additional information pertaining to the incident have been asked to share it with the police department. The police appealed to people not to share misleading information and believe false propaganda on social media about the case.
Allu Arjun was questioned for about three-and-half hours in connection with the case by the Chikkadpally police on Tuesday. It may be noted here that the actor was named as accused number 11 in the stampede case. He was arrested on December 13 and released from Chanchalguda jail the next day after the Telangana High Court granted him interim bail for four weeks.
