Police crack spate of theft and snatching cases in North Zone

SECUNDERABAD: A series of theft, chain snatching and robbery cases reported across the North Zone in the last fortnight were swiftly solved, with several accused arrested and stolen property recovered, police said.
At the Market police station, a mobile phone snatching case was detected within 12 hours of being reported on October 7. The accused, Manchala Janardhan Sirish (24), a delivery worker, and Cheraka Goutham Kumar (30), an electrician, both residents of Secunderabad, were arrested. Police recovered a Realme mobile phone used with SIM number 8309677326.
At Begumpet police station, on October 26, two men allegedly snatched a woman’s gold mangalsutram near the ICICI Bank at Prakash Nagar when she was walking to her office. Passersby alerted police through Dial 100, and officers caught the suspects within minutes. The arrested persons were identified as Jonnalagadda Ashok (27) and Gantenapalli Ramanayya (27), both from Guntur district. The stolen 3.7-tola gold chain, valued at about ₹3 lakh, was recovered.
In another case, Mahankali police arrested two robbers who attacked an auto driver near Audaiah X Road on October 27. The accused, Syed Zubair Ali (22) and Mohammed Pasha (20), robbed the victim of his auto and phone after assaulting him with a knife. Within 90 minutes, police intercepted them near Relax Hotel in Moghalpura and recovered the stolen auto, mobile phones, a Samsung tablet, a knife and ₹9,500 in cash. Investigation revealed the duo’s involvement in several other robberies across Hyderabad.
The Bowenpally police also solved a house burglary reported on October 8, in which gold ornaments, a Panchaloha idol and cash worth ₹80,000 were stolen. CCTV footage led to the arrest of Jangalam Chandan (39) and Jangalam Laxmi (35) of Yapral, both habitual offenders with multiple previous property offence cases in Rachakonda and Hyderabad police limits.
Another Bowenpally case, reported on October 27, involved the theft of a woman’s handbag containing jewellery, cash and documents at a bus stop. Police identified a juvenile drug addict as the suspect. Property recovery is pending.
In a separate Bowenpally case on October 19, Masood Khan (49) was arrested for posing as a police officer and collecting ₹2,000 as a fake traffic fine from two men. He was nabbed within days.
Meanwhile, at Mahankali police station, two suspects were caught for snatching a mobile phone from a man at Pan Bazar on October 15. The accused, Shaik Javeed (33) and Shaik Arif (25), were arrested and the stolen POCO C65 mobile and the two-wheeler used in the offence were recovered.
Police appealed to citizens to stay vigilant while travelling with valuables, inform neighbours and vendors when leaving town, secure doors and windows, and report suspicious activity promptly via Dial 100.
