Police seek three-day custody of Mujahid Alam Khan, father in alleged deer poaching case
HYDERABAD: Police on Friday sought three-day custody of accused Mujahid Alam Khan, his father Mahbub Alam Khan and co-accused Abhijit in the alleged deer poaching case. The court adjourned the hearing on the custody petition to June 8.
Investigators said they expect to arrest two other accused — Hassan Chaus and Md Muner, identified as Mujahid’s driver — before the next hearing.
Investigators plan separate questioning of accused
Police said they intend to question the accused separately if custody is granted.
“We are waiting for the court to grant police custody. We will use old-school interrogation techniques, questioning father and son separately and then with the other accused. Repeated questioning will bring out conflicting answers,” a police officer said.
Ammunition records under scrutiny
Police said they have collected details of the ammunition declared under Mujahid’s arms licences and plan to verify those records against ammunition purchases and spent rounds recovered during the investigation.
“We have collected the particulars of Mujahid’s ammunition from the declarations made in his arms licences. If we tally the purchase of rounds with spent cartridges in the presence of Hassan and Muner, they will have to reveal details of the alleged deer poaching,” the officer said.
