32 lost mobile phones traced, returned to owners in Hyderabad
HYDERABAD: The Hyderabad police returned 32 lost mobile phones to their respective owners on February 14, in a coordinated effort across the city.
Chandrayangutta Deputy Commissioner of Police A Sudhakar said the devices were traced through the Central Equipment Identity Register (CEIR) portal after complaints were lodged.
“As soon as a complaint is received on the CEIR portal, the numbers are instantly blocked and eventually tracked,” he said.
He said the system helps prevent misuse of lost devices and enables recovery through technical surveillance and coordination.
The officer warned the public about the risks of online fraud and unauthorised transactions if a mobile phone falls into the wrong hands.
Police advised citizens to report lost or stolen phones immediately on the CEIR portal to block services and avoid financial loss.
