Outer Ring Road stretch in Hyderabad under city police jurisdiction

HYDERABAD: After a reorganisation of police commissionerates in the capital, a major stretch of the Outer Ring Road (ORR) has come under the Hyderabad city police limits. Nearly 50 km of the expressway, which earlier fell only under Cyberabad and Rachakonda commissionerates, has now been brought into the city jurisdiction.

Senior police officials have also decided to set up a new traffic police station at Adibatla. Alongside, there is a proposal to officially notify the existing traffic police station at Rajendranagar, which has been functioning for years without formal status. Proposals on both matters have been sent to the government.

ORR jurisdiction expanded
Until August 2016, the entire ORR was under the Cyberabad police commissionerate. Later, the eastern part was carved out to form Cyberabad East, which was subsequently renamed Rachakonda. Since then, the ORR had been spread across Cyberabad and Rachakonda limits.

In December last year, the government reorganised police commissionerates and other units in Greater Hyderabad. With the creation of the Future City commissionerate, several areas — including Adibatla, Rajendranagar, Shamshabad, Mailardevpally and Attapur — were merged into the Hyderabad city limits. As a result, ORR stretches passing through these areas have also come under the city police.

Staff to remain unchanged
Although a traffic police station has been operating at Rajendranagar, it was set up as an administrative arrangement and never formally notified. Due to this, no separate staff had been sanctioned. Officials now want it to be officially notified so that sanctioned posts can be created.

Traffic points that earlier existed in areas transferred from Cyberabad and Rachakonda will continue to function. Personnel will be deputed to the city from the respective commissionerates from which these areas were moved.

At present, the ORR falls under four police commissionerates. The latest changes are expected to streamline traffic management and law-and-order responsibilities along the expressway. Until now, the Adibatla area came under the Ibrahimpatnam traffic police station. In view of the reorganisation, officials have decided to establish a separate traffic police station there.
