Hyderabad police raid illegal gambling house, arrest 22

Hyderabad: The Commissioner’s Task Force, South Zone Team, Hyderabad, along with the Kalapathar police, raided an illegal gambling house in Kalapathar on the night of September 7, 2024. During the operation, authorities apprehended 22 individuals engaged in poker games and seized a substantial cache of items.

The seized property includes Rs. 46,55,810 in cash, 104 playing cards and sealed card boxes, eight cell phones, one Activa scooter, and one cash counting machine.

The accused have been identified as Shaik Mohammed Khadeer (38), the main organiser; Mohd Nayeem (35), Shaik Pasha (35), and Mohd Majeed (29), all co-organisers and employees; along with 18 players are Mohd Saleem (32), Narsimha (50), B. Surya Naidu (36), J. Ramu Goud (47), T. Raghavendra (49), P. Ashwin (36), P. Mallikarjun (39), A. Naveen (29), A. Shaker Babu (42), J. Karthik (38), J. Anand Reddy (45), K. Naresh Kumar (27), Mohd Mansoor (43), Shaik Abdul Siraj (42), D. Venkatesh (36), M. Ailesh (40), B. Chatrapathi (52), and P. Sekhar (35).

Shaik Mohammed Khadeer, a Hyderabad native with education up to the intermediate level, has been involved in illegal gambling from a young age. He eventually became an organiser, operating gambling houses across various locations under the Tri-Commissionerates and arranging for punters to play in places such as Goa, Nepal, and Sri Lanka. The gambling operation was run from his brother-in-law’s house at H.No. 19-2-180/145, Narasa Reddy Colony, Kalapathar, Hyderabad, which he chose for its proximity to his own residence.

Acting on a credible tip-off, the Commissioner’s Task Force and Kalapathar Police conducted the raid late at night, resulting in the arrest of the 22 individuals and the seizure of several items. The arrested individuals, along with the seized property, have been handed over to the SHO of Kalapathar Police Station for further action. A case has been registered under Cr. No. 147/2024, U/s 3 & 4 of the Telangana Gaming Act, and the investigation is ongoing.

The operation was conducted under the supervision of Ande Srinivasa Rao, Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police, Task Force, Hyderabad, and led by Inspector S. Raghavendra, with assistance from Sub-Inspectors K. Narsimulu, G. Anjaneyulu, N. Naveen, and staff from the Task Force, South Zone, Hyderabad, and Kalapathar Police.
