Hyderabad police expose unhygienic pickle unit in Jiyaguda

HYDERABAD: Kulsumpura police raided an illegal pickle manufacturing unit in Jiyaguda on Wednesday, March 18, 2026, and seized large quantities of adulterated products. Two accused were arrested.
Police said the unit was operating without government licence and was producing pickles in unhygienic conditions, posing a risk to public health.
Rotten vegetables, substandard materials used in preparation, inquiry finds
Sub-Inspector M. Narasimha and his team were on patrol in the Jiyaguda area when they noticed suspicious activity at a godown in Venkateswara Nagar, house number 13-3-596/C/1. A search revealed that rotten vegetables and poor-quality raw materials were being used to prepare pickles.
The accused allegedly sold the products to local shops at low prices.
Case registered under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita provisions
Police seized 72 drums of various pickles, including lemon, red chilli, tamarind, gooseberry and gongura varieties. They also confiscated six drums of tomato and tamarind paste, one small drum of ginger-garlic paste, and an electronic weighing machine.
The arrested have been identified as N. Narasimha, 54, and N. Naresh, 45, both residents of Jiyaguda.
A case has been registered at Kulsumpura police station under Crime Number 85/2026 under Sections 318(4), 274 and 275 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. Police warned that strict action would be taken against illegal manufacturers endangering public health.
