Hyderabad police invoke PD Act against Mir Akbar Ali

HYDERABAD: The Hyderabad City Police on Thursday invoked the Preventive Detention (PD) Act against Mir Akbar Ali, 32, a habitual offender with multiple criminal cases, citing his continued involvement in serious crimes affecting public order.

Third detention under PD Act

Police said Mir Akbar Ali, a resident of Ganga Nagar Nala in Yakuthpura and a DCM driver by profession, has a criminal history spanning 25 cases. These include murder, attempt to murder, robbery, and offences under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act and the Indian Arms Act. This is the third time the PD Act has been invoked against him; he was detained twice earlier under the same law.

Recent cases booked by Rein Bazar police

Rein Bazar police recently registered three cases against him. Crime No. 21/2025 was booked under Sections 118(1), 352 and 351(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Crime No. 25/2025 was registered under the NDPS Act. Crime No. 173/2025 was booked under Sections 324(4), 329(4) and 351(3) of the BNS, along with Section 25(1) of the Indian Arms Act.

Following the detention order issued on the directions of the Commissioner of Police, Hyderabad City, V.C. Sajjanar, Mir Akbar Ali was shifted to Chanchalguda Central Prison.

Police said they would continue to take strict action against habitual offenders to maintain public order and safety in the city.
