The 5K run began from Necklace Road, passed via the Martyrs’ Memorial, crossed the Telugu Talli Flyover, and returned to Necklace Road.

Panchayat Raj & Rural Development, Women & Child Welfare Minister D Anasuya Seethakka flagged off the event.

Speaking on the occasion, Minister Seethakka praised the city police for organizing the event for women’s safety and empowerment. She also extended her best wishes to everyone on International Women’s Day.

Seethakka emphasized the importance of building both mental and physical strength. She recalled that there was once a time when women were looked down upon in society. International Women’s Day began with a gathering that demanded equal pay for equal work.

“Gender equality is the essence of International Women’s Day, and the police continue to make consistent efforts toward ensuring women’s safety,” the minister said.

Hyderabad Commissioner of Police CV Anand said over 5,000 students participated in the event, which was held in the 5K and 2K run categories. He stated that the program’s theme “Run for Action,” focuses on accelerating efforts toward women’s safety and empowerment.

“Today, over 5,000 students have participated here in the 5k and 2k run to celebrate this event,” said CV Anand, Hyderabad Commissioner of Police.

The Commissioner further said that he was happy to see the huge turnout for the run. He explained how women are leading several police departments in the Commissionerate.

“Out of the 20 DCPs in the Commissionerate, 8 are women DCPs. Recently, we have appointed women SHOs in law and order as well as traffic police stations. In the Commissionerate, out of 18,000 police personnel, 30 percent are women. All these are clear signs of women’s progress,” he said.
