Hyderabad Police launch ‘Operation Thunderbolt’, detain 65 suspects in Manganri Basti
HYDERABAD: Hyderabad City Police conducted a large-scale cordon and search operation, codenamed ‘Operation Thunderbolt’, in Manganri Basti under the limits of Habeeb Nagar police station on July 9, 2026. The operation began at 03.30 IST as part of the city’s drive against drug trafficking and anti-social activities.
The operation was carried out under the guidance of Commissioner of Police V.C. Sajjanar. It was directly supervised by Additional Commissioner of Police (Law and Order) Tafsir Iqbal and Additional Commissioner of Police (Crimes and Special Investigation Team) S.M. Srinivas. Deputy Commissioner of Police, Task Force, Gaikwad Vaibhav Raghunath monitored the operation on the ground.
1,100 personnel from specialised police units take part
Around 1,100 police personnel participated in the operation. The teams included the Hyderabad Narcotics Enforcement Wing (H-NEW), Task Force, Hyderabad Fast Action Teams (H-FAST), Central Crime Station (CCS), CAR armed forces and local civil police.
During the operation, police detained 15 alleged drug offenders and 50 suspected property offenders. They also took into custody property offenders, chain snatchers and suspects with pending non-bailable warrants.
Ganja, cough syrup and liquor seized during searches
Police said they seized 150 sachets of ganja, 1 kg of dry ganja, 32 bottles of cough syrup and liquor bottles during the searches.
Senior police officials said Hyderabad City Police would continue its zero-tolerance approach against narcotics trafficking and other criminal activities. They added that strict criminal cases would be registered against those involved in drug-related offences and activities that disturb public order.
