Hyderabad police book five cases over fake number plates
HYDERABAD: Hyderabad traffic police have intensified checks against vehicles using fake or tampered number plates and registered five criminal cases over the past week.
The cases were registered against five people at different law-and-order police stations, and the vehicles involved were seized, police said.

The special drive targets motorists using illegal number plates to conceal the identity of vehicles, evade traffic challans and violate motor vehicle regulations, according to Hyderabad traffic police.
The cases were registered at Panjagutta, Chilakalguda, Dindi in Nalgonda district, Kanchanbagh and Bandlaguda police stations.
Traffic police reiterate need for HSRP number plates
Police said vehicle owners must use only government-approved High-Security Registration Plates (HSRP). They warned that altering number plates, obscuring digits or using temporary stickers on them would invite legal action.
Hyderabad Joint Commissioner of Police (Traffic) D Joel Davis, IPS, said the department was following a “zero tolerance” policy towards the use of fake or tampered number plates.
He warned that violations would lead to seizure of vehicles and criminal action.
Davis said the checks would continue across the city to improve public safety, prevent crime and ensure lawful road use.
