Hyderabad police seize Rs. 77 lakh worth of duplicate electric wires

Hyderabad: The Commissioner’s Task Force Hyderabad, Central Zone team, along with Copyright authentication field agents, raided a godown storing and selling duplicate electric wires on July 14. The raid, conducted under the limits of Afzalgunj Police Station in Poosalabasthi, Jambagh, led to the arrest of one person and the seizure of duplicate electric wire materials worth Rs. 77 lakh.
The arrested individual has been identified as Dayaram Choudary (21), son of Jeramji Choudary, a resident of Afzalgunj, Hyderabad.
The seized duplicate wires copied the prominent brands like Finolex, V-Guard, Polycab, Anchor, Goldmedal, and G.M Company. The raid yielded approximately 865 bundles of Finolex wires, 311 bundles of V-Guard wires, 465 bundles of Polycab wires, 453 bundles of Anchor wires, 615 bundles of Goldmedal wires, and 366 bundles of G.M Company wires. Additionally, authorities found 4,190 empty boxes used for packing the duplicate wires, along with packing material and stickers.
According to police investigation, Dayaram Choudary confessed to coming to Hyderabad from Rajasthan five years ago. He, along with his brother-in-law Narender Chowdary, ran an electric items shop named Pawan Enterprises near Gowliguda, Afzalgunj. Claiming insufficient income from their shop, the duo hatched a plan to make easy money illegally.
They reportedly procured duplicate cable wires, boxes, holograms, and serial numbers of popular electric cable brands from sources in Delhi and Gujarat. The duplicate materials and empty boxes were then stored at the raided godown. The duo allegedly repacked the duplicate wires of various gauges 1.0 mm, 1.5 mm, 2.5 mm, 4.0 mm, etc. into branded packaging and sold them to builders, wholesale and retail shops, and even individual customers at inflated prices.
While Dayaram Choudary has been apprehended, Narender Chowdary is at large. The accused have been charged with violating the Copyright Act.
The arrested individual, along with the seized duplicate materials, empty boxes, and packing material, have been handed over to the Station House Officer, Afzalgunj Police Station for further action.
