HYDERABAD: Hyderabad Police on Saturday dismissed social media claims linking a rise in gold prices to a surge in chain snatching incidents in the city, calling the reports baseless.

Police said there was no truth to rumours suggesting that interstate gangs had set up base in Hyderabad to target women and senior citizens. “The propaganda being circulated on social media is completely false,” police said, urging the public not to forward unverified or fear-inducing messages.

The police warned that strict legal action would be taken against those spreading misinformation and creating panic among residents.

City remains safe, say police

Reassuring citizens, the police said Hyderabad remained safe and peaceful, and appealed for public cooperation in maintaining law and order.

People were advised to immediately dial 100 if they noticed anything suspicious. “Remain calm. Your safety is our responsibility,” the police said.
