Hyderabad police detain Nepal-based gang member Sunil Pariyar under PD Act
HYDERABAD: Hyderabad police have detained Sunil Bahadur Aauji alias Sunil Pariyar under the Telangana Prevention of Dangerous Activities Act in connection with the Jubilee Hills murder-for-gain case involving Tanuja Ranjan, wife of retired IPS officer Vinay Ranjan Ray.
The Hyderabad police commissioner issued the detention order on August 10, 2026, under Detention Order No. SB(No).688/CIU-1/PD/HYD/2026. Police detained Pariyar on August 11 under Section 3(2) of the Telangana Prevention of Dangerous Activities Act, 1986.
Pariyar accused in Jubilee Hills murder case
Police identified Pariyar, 29, as a car driver and a native of Timilsain village in Nepal’s Achham district. He had been living in Karanjale, Panvel taluka, in Navi Mumbai.
Jubilee Hills police booked him in the murder-for-gain case under Sections 103(1), 309(2) and 317(3) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
According to police, Pariyar and his associates allegedly planned the crime and entered Ranjan’s residence. They allegedly restrained and suffocated her before fleeing with gold ornaments and other valuables.
Police arrested Pariyar on May 22, 2026. A court later remanded him to judicial custody.
Cases registered in Gujarat and Maharashtra
Police said Pariyar also faces a case at A Division police station in Jamnagar, Gujarat. The case was registered under Sections 331(4), 305(a) and 54 of the BNS.
He also faces a case at Naigaon police station in Maharashtra under Sections 331(3), 331(4) and 3(5) of the BNS, according to the police.
Police said authorities considered the nature and gravity of the alleged offences before ordering his detention under the PD Act.
Police lodged Pariyar as per procedure after detaining him on August 11.
Hyderabad City Police said it would take stringent legal action against habitual and organised offenders whose activities threaten public order and the safety of citizens.
