Hyderabad police foil Group-1 aspirants attempt to hold presser, several detained

Hyderabad: Tension gripped the Ashok Nagar area as Hyderabad police foiled an attempt by Group-1 aspirants to hold a press conference over their demands for postponement of Mains examinations and concerns for GO 29 related to recruitment and reservation policies.
The aspirants had announced they would hold a media conference in the afternoon. As they prepared to address the media persons, the Hyderabad police swung into action and prevented them from speaking to the reporters present there. Visuals on Telugu news channels showed that the policemen detained and lifted the protesting candidates bodily and took them away in a police van.
As the candidates were being pushed into the police vehicle, some of them told reporters that their lives will be ruined due to the controverial GO. They requested chief minister Revanth Reddy to listen to their problems and scrap the contentious GO 29.
Protesting candidates added that the police are still resorting to lathi charge despite the chief minister’s appeal not to use force against the Group-1 candidates.
An eerie calm prevailed in Ashok Nagar as heavy police contingents were deployed in the area. Due to the volatile situation, additional forces were also rushed to Gandhi Bhavan, the Congress headquarters, as part of a security bandobast.
