HNEW urges parents to monitor children against drug abuse
HYDERABAD: The Hyderabad Narcotics Enforcement Wing (HNEW) has deported a Sudanese national, Mohamed Yagoub Mohamed Ali, 34, after his acquittal in two narcotics cases. Police said he was overstaying in India without valid travel documents and was involved in drug-related offences.
Ali, also known as Jabal and Kurba, is a native of Garsala, Republic of Sudan, and had been residing in Bangalore and Hyderabad. He arrived in India in 2012 on a student visa for a BCA course at Osmania University but discontinued studies.
Previous cases and acquittals
In 2018, Kushaiguda police arrested him with eight wet cannabis plants (Crime No. 758/2018) and sent him to Chanchalguda jail. He was released on bail in 2019 and later acquitted in September 2023.
In 2019, Rajendranagar police booked him in a case involving charas and heroin (Crime No. 1252/2019). He was arrested in 2021 and spent a year in custody. The trial concluded with his acquittal on August 1, 2025, by the XIII Additional District and Sessions Judge, Cyberabad and Ranga Reddy.
Deportation process
Police said Ali overstayed in India for more than 12 years after his passport expired in October 2016 and visa in July 2013. Despite acquittals, he continued links with drug peddlers. In October 2024, HNEW detained him along with another Sudanese national, who was found in possession of MDMA and remanded to judicial custody.
After his acquittal in the pending Rajendranagar case, HNEW secured an Emergency Travel Document from the Sudan High Commission in Delhi and an exit permit from FRRO Hyderabad. He was escorted by an HNEW team led by Inspector G.S. Daniel and deported to Sudan on September 12, 2025, from Mumbai airport.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Task Force/HNEW) Y.V.S. Sudheendra said Public Prosecutor V. Venkateshwarlu and Assistant Sub-Inspector V.R. Subba Rao played a key role in expediting the trial.
