HYDERABAD: Hyderabad Police have solved the murder of High Court advocate Khaja Moinuddin, which was initially made to appear as a road accident. Police Commissioner Sajjanar said the investigation revealed a planned conspiracy behind the killing.

Addressing a media conference on Friday, Sajjanar said Moinuddin was killed on May 23 while he was on his way to a swimming session. The accused allegedly rammed a Scorpio SUV into him and fled the scene. The vehicle was used without number plates to avoid detection.

Police identified the suspects using CCTV footage and detained them through special teams. The investigation found that disputes related to Waqf properties and tribunal cases were the primary motive behind the murder.

Waqf disputes led to conspiracy

Police arrested the main conspirator, Mujahid Alam Khan. According to investigators, the accused had agreed to pay ₹15 lakh for Moinuddin’s murder.

Kishan alias Pappu, a resident of Panipat in Haryana, was also taken into custody.

Investigators found that the accused had conducted surveillance on the advocate’s movements since January. They allegedly purchased the Scorpio vehicle specifically to execute the murder.

Vehicle purchased for murder

Police identified Abhijit alias Nani as the driver who allegedly carried out the killing by driving the vehicle into Moinuddin.

Officials seized ₹10.10 lakh in cash and mobile phones from the accused. The Scorpio SUV used in the crime has also been seized.

Sajjanar said several other accused remain absconding and efforts are under way to trace and arrest them.
