Hyderabad police invite citizens to join Commemoration Day competitions
Hyderabad: Hyderabad City Police is inviting citizens to take part in a competition featuring essay writing and short films in celebration of Police Commemoration Day, which falls on October 21, 2024.
The official handle of Hyderabad City Police announced the initiative on X (formerly Twitter), stating, “Competition on Essay Writing and Short Videos on #PoliceCommemorationDay. To commemorate the enduring memory of the courageous policemen who sacrificed their lives in the line of duty, October 21 is recognised as Commemoration Day by police forces throughout India. This date is especially significant because it marks the day in 1959 when ten policemen were ambushed and killed by the Chinese Army at Hot Springs in Ladakh during an unequal confrontation on Indian territory. In honour of their sacrifice, the DGsP/IGsP Conference convened in 1962 and established October 21 as an annual observance of Police Commemoration Day.
The competition consists of two categories:
1. Short Film Contest: Participants are encouraged to create a short film with a police-related theme. The video should not exceed 3 minutes in duration, and the file size must be no larger than 300MB.
2. Essay Writing Competition: For students up to 12th class, the topic is “Judicious Usage of Mobile Phones,” with a maximum length of 500 words. For degree students and above, the topic is “My Role in Making Telangana a Drug-Free State,” also with a maximum length of 500 words. Essays can be submitted in Telugu, Urdu, or English.
