Hyderabad police busts Bangladesh-bound mobile theft

Hyderabad: A Six member gang operated by Jharkhand based kingpin who indulged in thefts of mobile phones and smuggling it to Bangladesh citizens near India-Bangladesh border was busted by the Hyderabad police on Tuesday. The operation also led to the arrest of three police personnel working in Hyderabad commissionerate, who were found to be in collusion with the criminals.

Investigation revealed that the kingpin of the gang, Rahul Kumar Yadav is operating from his home state Jharkhand. The main conspirator formed a gang with Alamin Gazi from West Bengal, Mohammad Shahanwaz and Jonu Kumar from Bihar, Govinda Kumar Mahto, Jugeshvar Noniya, and Md Mukhtar Shekh from Jharkhand. Further he deputed the gang members to various parts of the country such as Hyderabad, Surat, Lucknow, Ranchi, Belur, Chennai, Varanasi, Nagpur, Patna to commit mobile thefts.

Explaining the modus operandi of the accused S.M. Vijay Kumar, DCP West Zone, Hyderabad said, “The gang members identify crowded places such as vegetable markets, Metro trains, religious processions and other crowded places. Further the gang members would identify unsuspecting victims who kept their cell phones in shirt pockets. The gang would then create distractions, allowing a trained member to pick the cell phone and hand it over to another person of the gang. They would quickly disperse to avoid detection and move to another crowded location to repeat the theft”.

Investigation revealed that after stealing around 50-60 mobiles they inform the gang mastermind Rahul Kumar Yadav who sends another person Muktar Singh to Hyderabad and other cities to collect the mobiles and bring them to Jharkhand. Further the stolen mobiles were smuggled to West Bengal and then to India-Bangladesh border where they sell them to Bangladesh citizens.

On last Tuesday, Shanu came to Hyderabad M.S. Maktha to collect all the stolen cell phones, approximately 58 cell phones. With credible information he was taken into custody and all the accused were arrested on Tuesday.

Further probe revealed some of the policemen colluded with the gang. The Police personnel working in Home guard Ashok working in Gandhi Nagar police station and police constable Somanna and Sai ram working in Saifabad police station helped gang members to get them released from police stations by taking money from the gang members as and when they were apprehended by the police.
