Cops bust fake currency unit in Tandur

HYDERABAD: The South West Zone and Mehdipatnam police arrested eight people for circulating counterfeit ₹500 notes and seized fake currency worth ₹4.7 lakh, along with a car, three motorbikes and nine mobile phones.
Fake currency made at Tandur house
Additional DCP B Srikrishna Goud said on Thursday that Kasturi Ramesh of Gundimal village in Kosgi mandal produced fake ₹500 notes at his residence in Tandur with the help of his sister Rameshwari.
Police said Ramesh scanned an original ₹500 note, used Photoshop to design prints on JK bond paper, cut them to size and created a green security thread using gift-pack paper. He affixed the strip with adhesive and dried the notes using a heat gun.
Fake notes sold through Instagram network
According to police, Abdul Wahid, 21, and Mohammed, 21, of Suleman Nagar, Hyderabad contacted Ramesh on Instagram and bought fake notes.
They resold them at a rate of three fake notes for one original to Mohammed Sohail, 21, of Suleman Nagar, and Mohammed Fahad, 23, of Bahadurpura.
Sohail and Fahad further passed the counterfeit notes at a ratio of two fake notes for one original to Sheikh Imran, 23, of Kukatpally, and Omar Khan, also from Kukatpally.
Gang caught during exchange at Idgah Dargah
Imran and Omar reportedly planned to exchange fake notes with Altamash, 21, of Syed Kishan Bagh, at the Idgah Dargah near First Lancers on Tuesday night.
A team from the Task Force and local police caught all three red-handed during the transaction.
The eight accused were produced in court and remanded on Thursday. Police added that Ramesh and Rameshwari had earlier been arrested in a similar fake-currency case.
