Hyderabad police arrest Yemen drug peddler with MDMA

HYDERABAD: Rajendranagar police and the Hyderabad Narcotics Enforcement Wing (H-NEW) arrested an interstate drug peddler and his associate during a joint operation on March 3, 2026. Police seized 150 grams of MDMA valued at ₹25 lakh, a knife and four mobile phones.
The case has been registered at Rajendranagar police station as Crime No. 236/2026 under Sections 8(C) read with 22(C) and 29 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985, and Section 14 of the Foreigners Act.
Yemen national among accused
The main accused, Al-Akar Abdurabu Mohammed Abdurabu, 37, a Yemen national residing in Tolichowki, Hyderabad, allegedly operated as a drug peddler across states.
Police records show he was earlier arrested in multiple cases registered at Ameerpet Excise police station between 2019 and 2022. Two more cases were registered against him later, including one in 2023 where a non-bailable warrant is pending, and another in 2026 at Tolichowki police station where he is listed as absconding.
Police said Abdurabu came to India on a tourist visa in 2008 and initially stayed in Pune. He later enrolled for a Bachelor of Computer Applications (BCA) course on a student visa but discontinued it. In 2011 he moved to Hyderabad and joined Sikkim Manipal University.
After travelling to Yemen in 2012, he returned to Hyderabad in 2015 on another student visa. His passport expired in 2020.
Investigators said he later came in contact with a Delhi-based drug supplier known as “Chidi” through a Palestinian national named Sayeed Ali. Police said Abdurabu sheltered the supplier in his room for eight months and eventually turned to drug peddling to fund a lavish lifestyle.
Associate helped transport drugs
The second accused, Hasan W. A. Hashim, 28, originally from Gaza, Palestine, is a content creator for a Ludo gaming platform and resides in Bengaluru.
Police said Hashim came to India in 2016 and completed a BCA in Karnataka. He returned to the country in 2022 on a business visa.
In November 2022, Yelahanka New Town police in Bengaluru arrested him with 300 grams of MDMA. He later met Abdurabu in jail. After securing bail, Hashim allegedly began assisting Abdurabu in transporting drugs, providing shelter and allowing his bank accounts to be used for drug transactions.
Modus operandi
Police said Abdurabu procured drugs from Nigerian suppliers through WhatsApp at lower prices. Hashim allegedly collected the drugs and supplied them to customers in Hyderabad and Bengaluru either directly or through the “dead-drop” method.
Investigators said the accused also used private buses at times to transport the drugs.
Public advisory
Police urged parents to monitor their children, noting that students and information technology professionals are increasingly falling into drug abuse.
People with information about drug activities can contact the H-NEW team at 8712661601 or dial 100 or 112, police said.
