Hyderabad Police Arrest Wanted Rowdy-Sheeter After 14 Years

HYDERABAD: A most-wanted rowdy-sheeter accused in 21 cases, including murder, attempt to murder and offences under the Arms Act, was arrested by Sultan Bazar police after allegedly evading law enforcement for 14 years by changing his identity and appearance.
Vaishnav Kishans alias V. Ganesh, originally from Uttar Pradesh, had been living in Sultan Bazar. Police first opened a rowdy sheet against him in 1999 for alleged anti-social activities.
Multiple criminal cases registered over the years
After going into hiding, Kishans allegedly committed several offences in the city between 2003 and 2010. In connection with a case registered at Sultan Bazar police station in 2010, he surrendered before a Nampally court the same year.
He spent two years in jail and was released on bail in May 2012. Police said he did not appear before any court in subsequent proceedings after his release.
Technical surveillance helps police trace accused
During a recent review of absconding accused persons and rowdy-sheeters, police identified Kishans as a priority target and formed a special team to trace him.
Based on technical surveillance and other intelligence inputs, investigators found that he was residing in Malakpet. Police said he had changed his name to Vaishnav Ganesh Maharaj in his Aadhaar card and other identity documents and was locally known by that name.
The accused was taken into custody on Wednesday. Police are investigating how the identity documents were altered and whether any irregularities were involved in the process.
Inspector Naresh and Sub-Inspector Sairam, who played a key role in the arrest, were appreciated by Zone Deputy Commissioner of Police Shilpavalli and Commissioner Sajjanar.
