Woman held for stealing gold at Hyderabad function halls

HYDERABAD: Police arrested Shaik Shaheen Begum of Bandlaguda Errakunta for allegedly stealing gold ornaments from function halls in the city. Rajendranagar Zone police have also opened a suspect sheet against her.
She is an accused in a theft reported at City Palace Function Hall in January. Police said she allegedly stole about 50 grams of gold ornaments during the event.
Accused earlier convicted in husband’s murder case, police say
Investigators said the woman used to enter function halls posing as an invitee. She allegedly targeted unattended handbags, especially those containing valuables.
Police records show she was earlier accused in her husband’s murder. A court had sentenced her to life imprisonment in that case registered at Pahadishareef police station.
Police advise public to remain alert in crowded places
Police urged people to keep handbags secure in crowded locations such as function halls, markets, buses and railway stations. They advised against leaving bags unattended even for a short time and recommended carrying limited cash or valuables.
People were also asked to keep bag zips closed, hold handbags in front in crowded areas, and stay alert if strangers try to distract them. Suspicious behaviour or theft incidents should be reported immediately to the police.
Function hall managements asked to strengthen CCTV surveillance measures
Police directed function hall operators to install closed-circuit television cameras at entry and exit points, parking areas, reception, dining and seating sections. Cameras should be of high resolution to capture clear images of faces and movement.
Operators were advised to ensure continuous functioning of cameras and store footage for at least 15 to 30 days for police access when required. Non-functional cameras should be repaired immediately. Managements must prominently display notices indicating CCTV surveillance and remain responsible for maintenance and security.
The advisory was issued by Deputy Commissioner of Police (Rajendranagar Zone) S. Srinivas.
