Hyderabad police arrest pickpocket duo after attack on officers

Hyderabad: Hyderabad police arrested two pickpocketing individuals who assaulted police officers during a decoy operation early Friday morning.
On the night of July 11th, a decoy team comprised of an Assistant Reserve Police Constable (ARPC) and a Civil Police Constable (PC) was deployed at Nampally Railway Station next to Ghouse e-Pak Chilla. This was part of the ongoing efforts to reduce property crimes and violent offenses at night.
Around 12:10 am, the decoy team spotted two individuals acting suspiciously. Upon questioning them, one of the suspects attempted to attack the officers with an axe concealed under his shirt while the other threw stones. Despite warnings to surrender and drop their weapons, the assailants continued to act aggressively.
In self-defense, the ARPC fired a single shot at the individual wielding the axe, injuring him in the right thigh. The injured suspect has been identified as 19-year-old Raju, Son of Dhanraj, a resident of Mallepally, who was immediately transported to Osmania General Hospital (OGH) for treatment.
Acting on information provided by Raju, the local police team swiftly apprehended the second absconding suspect, 19-year-old Mohd Khaja alias Ayaan, a resident of Habeebnagar.
During interrogation, both individuals confessed to pickpocketing money and mobile phones from sleeping passengers. They admitted to stealing Rs. 400 from a person sleeping near Nampally’s Exhibition Grounds shortly before the encounter incident. Further investigation is underway to determine their involvement in similar offenses.
