Hyderabad police arrest 3 for cell phone theft, recover Rs. 1.25 lakh

Hyderabad Cyber Crime Unit recovers over ₹8.4 lakh for victims of online frauds

Hyderabad: Based on credible information, the Commissioner’s Task Force, North Zone Team, Hyderabad City, and the Kharkana Police successfully apprehended three individuals involved in a series of cell phone snatchings.

The accused have been identified as Bariya Rakesh Nagaraj Yadav (19), son of the late Rakesh Yadav and a resident of Yapral, Secunderabad, along with two juvenile accomplices.

A case has been registered under Cr. No. 202/2024 U/s 304 BNS at Kharkana Police Station.

The recovered items include a Redmi 13 5G phone and a white Activa scooter (Reg. No. TS 32 7219), both used in the commission of the crime, with a combined value of Rs. 1,25,000.

According to police reports, Bariya Rakesh Nagaraj Yadav and the juvenile boys devised a plan to commit cell phone snatchings to earn quick money. Their modus operandi involved moving through deserted areas at odd hours, and targeting single pedestrians. While the juveniles drove the vehicle, Bariya Rakesh Nagaraj Yadav, riding as a pillion, would snatch phones from victims before fleeing from the scene.

On the night of August 29, 2024, the accused targeted a victim near K V School Lane, opposite Secunderabad Club, Kharkhana, Secunderabad, stealing a Redmi cell phone and escaping.

Following credible information, the Commissioner’s Task Force, North Zone Team, led by Inspector K. Saidulu, along with Srinivasulu Dasu and P. Gnanadeep, apprehended the offenders on September 2, 2024. The suspects were taken to Kharkana Police Station for further investigation.

It was earlier reported that Tukaramgate police arrested a cell phone snatcher on August 20, 2024, and recovered six mobile phones from their possession. The police also arrested another person who bought the mobiles from the snatcher.

The accused has been identified as Basamalla Praveen Kumar and the receiver was identified as Hugar Basawaraj.

At midnight on August 16th, a cell phone snatching case was reported within the jurisdiction of the Tukaramgate police station. The investigation revealed that the accused person, Basamlla Praveen Kumar, committed the theft of six mobile phones in two separate cases registered within the Tukaramgate police station limits of the Hyderabad commissionerate.
